ESSENTIAL JOB RESULTS:

 

Merchandising Responsibilities

1.         DEVELOP PURCHASING STRATEGY by

partnering with DMM and Buyers to identify new opportunities, performing departmental and divisional analysis, researching merchandise lines, researching market trends, assisting Buyers in identifying, developing, and selecting merchandise, authorizing purchase orders, reviewing assortment plans with Planning Manager to ensure alignment with company-defined profiles.

 

2.         MANAGE BUSINESS RESULTS by

partnering with DMM and Planning Manager to develop seasonal division and department plans and exit strategies; reviewing weekly stock receipts and overall business at department level, working with DMM and Planning Manager to review and update the open-to-buy, responding to changing sales trends, ensuring division achieves plan sales, plan turn, plan markups, and plan markdowns, managing controllable expenses.

 

3.         CREATE RELATIONSHIPS WITH VENDORS by

establishing, maintaining and managing partnerships with vendors, ensuring achievement of vendor profitability by performing vendor analysis (sales, markdown, markup), implementing rack ready and assuring timely deliveries, assisting Buyers with effective negotiations.

           

4.         PROMOTE AND ADVERTISE MERCHANDISE by

partnering with DMM and Buyer to identify promotional and key item strategies, partnering with Planning Manager to create profitability and liability strategies, assisting Buyers and Advertising to develop promotional material, providing input to Buyer for seasonal advertising calendar supporting sales and margin objectives, partnering with Planning Manager to identify markdown and pricing strategies, authorizing price changes, assisting Buyers in planning merchandising guidelines.

 

Analyzing Information and Decision Making Responsibilities

5.         DEVELOP DIVISIONAL STRATEGIC PLANS by

directing and leading the creation of the financial plan in conjunction with the Planning Manager, creating merchandise and marketing strategies that support the plan, identifying competitive advantages for division, identifying statistical trends,

 

6.         ORGANIZE WORK FLOW by 

planning and prioritizing work based on critical factors, managing time efficiently to ensure meeting deadlines, being self-motivated and comfortable performing multiple tasks, maintaining an effective information storage and retrieval system.

 

7.         MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS by

using analytical thinking skills to identify potential problems and develop appropriate solutions, compiling and thoroughly evaluating all relevant information to include the input of others, making judgements on business issues that affect the Division, using current and new systems to maximize efficiencies.

 

 

 

Business Partnering Responsibilities

8.         PROVIDE INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY by

            communicating merchandising and marketing strategies through a well-defined process, utilizing exceptional listening skills, exhibiting a positive and helpful attitude with business partners, giving constructive feedback, being open to receiving feedback from others, sharing any and all information that impacts the work, committing to improve communications.

 

9.         DEVELOP A COLLABORATIVE TEAM FOCUS by

building relationships that will foster a healthy team environment, using effective questioning techniques, keeping an open mind and being creative when solving problems, negotiating shared meanings of work, assisting in creating a shared vision and setting team goals.

 

Leadership Responsibilities

 

10.       DEVELOP STAFF by

conducting legal and effective interviews, providing information and training, sharing tools, ideas, best practices, and experiences with Buyers, giving effective performance feedback, considering appropriate staff development action, assessing individuals for performance and promotion, coaching for improved work performance.

 

11.       SUPERVISE AND COORDINATE ACTIVITIES by

managing work processes, supervising employees, prioritizing and allocating resources, assigning/delegating tasks, maintaining budget.

 

12.       CREATE AN EMPOWERING ENVIRONMENT by

welcoming diversity, encouraging associates to share ideas and suggestions, listening to associates opinions, creating a positive and fun work environment, encouraging associates to develop their skills to the fullest potential, encouraging teamwork.

 

 

 

BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Merchandising, Marketing, Business, or other related field and/or a minimum of 10 years applicable retail work experience. 

 

Technical Skills: Merchandising skills, Negotiating skills, Retail Math skills, and Project Management skills. Ability to research and analyze large amounts of data. Computer skills to include navigational ability in a networked environment and proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail applications.

 

Behavioral Attributes: Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Should exhibit a strong interest in working with people. Demonstrate ability to assume a leadership role. Results-oriented, willingness to follow through, make informed decisions, complete tasks and problem-solve. Demonstrate abilities in learning new skills, change/variety in work and creativity. Should display a strong fashion sense and understanding of quality/value relationships. Exhibits attention to detail with high degree of accuracy.

 

Physical Requirements: Use of equipment to include but not limited to: Reading from a computer monitor, operating a calculator, and typing on a computer keyboard. Light physical effort required.  Sitting at workstation will constitute 50% or more of a work shift. Stooping and lifting various merchandise contents of up to 20 lbs. or more on an as needed basis.

 

Preferred: Experience in a Windows 95 or 98 environment with demonstrated skills in Word 97, Excel 97, and Lotus Notes.

 

Travel Requirements: Some amount of travel is required.
