The Opportunity & Position Overview:

Bring excitement and a trend forward fashion sense to the denim and casual bottoms business.

Maurices is searching for an experienced buyer who could capitalize on past successes in the

junior’s market and bring their passion for the business to this high profile category. An ideal

candidate could dial into their expertise in denim washes, techniques, and fit.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

Drive Results:

⎯ Maintain proper unit and dollar inventory levels for buying area of responsibilities

⎯ Tries different approaches to learn and achieve results

⎯ Manage all aspects of the business in the assigned area of responsibilities

⎯ Self-motivated with inner drive and initiative to deliver results

Merchandise Strategy:

⎯ Product development, competitive and market intelligence, strategic market

partnerships

⎯ Develop departmental merchandising strategy within the company guidelines

through the study of market influence, business trends, product availability and

funding available

⎯ Identify trends and capitalize on them, ensure creation of a unique collection that

emphasizes maurices unique selling propositions

⎯ Offers customers fashion right product at a value they’ll recognize

⎯ Maintain working knowledge of competitors

⎯ Ensure immediate and long-term profitability by planning statistically and

conceptually for short and long range development business

⎯ Ability to have a vision and then execute it

Think Strategically/Forecasting:

⎯ Accurately projects and manages product, sales, and markdowns

⎯ Can anticipate future consequences accurately and create appropriate strategies

⎯ Questions how things are and challenges how they could be. Helps to simplify

processes.

⎯ Considers the big picture, thinks beyond own scope to understand the impact of the

decision on the department, division, and brand.

⎯ Understands and takes action to correct bad business and minimize losses

⎯ Draw business conclusions current events, pop culture and through observations

⎯ Continuously ask questions and look for information sources to understand our

customer more thoroughly

Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required

Experience:

⎯ 5 years of retail buying experience required

⎯ Previous denim experience preferred

Skills:

⎯ Strong sense of fashion

⎯ Positive attitude

⎯ Proficient in MS Word, Excel, systems savvy

⎯ Solid understanding of retail math

⎯ Strong analytical and organizational skills

⎯ Strategic thinking and decision making skills

⎯ Takes initiative; self-starting

⎯ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

⎯ Excellent interpersonal
